Hiiiii everyone! YES, I’m still alive and NO, I haven’t forgotten about the ORC (even though I haven’t posted a blog update since week 3 of it – eek, sorry!). I’ve been crazy busy over here in the best way possible with some long overdue travel and some fun new undertakings on the career front (more to come on that eventually but spoiler alert, some of it may have something to do with a position in interior design and I’m in heaven). Exciting stuff to be sure but when I say there hasn’t been so much as a free minute, I mean it.
All that being said, I’m moving right along with my youngest’s room transformation and it’s starting to take shape. Week four finally brought the end of the painting and I’ll be honest, it wasn’t as bad as I thought. Admittedly, that’s easy for me to say when my husband did 90% of it (his choice I swear, apparently my painting skills leave a lot to be desired) but we both agreed the beadboard went a lot faster than the board and batten in our eldest’s room which was a major plus.
Week five had us out of town in Vermont and Maine, so I got to hit some wonderful home goods shops. Check out the cute find from Spaces by Nicki Bongiorno in Kennebunkport. How nicely will these frames tie in with the scalloped rattan nightstands that I’m using?!
As for week six, I have one word for you: wallpaper. Normally, things get real dicey over here when it comes time to put up wallpaper. Chris and I have to keep mentally reminding ourselves of all the reasons we got married (just kidding…mostly) and we both wind up on the brink of insanity. We went to apply the first panel last Sunday – a particularly hot and humid afternoon I might add – and immediately began struggling to get the botanical pattern to properly line up. I saw Chris’s jaw clench in the alarming way that only the most annoying of home improvement projects can produce and I did perhaps the kindest thing that has ever been done. “Go relax, I’ve got this”. He obviously didn’t protest and do you know what happened next? I WALLPAPERED THE ENTIRE ROOM BY MYSELF like a freaking superhero. Dead serious, the plot of Wonder Woman 3 is just going to revolve around me, dripping sweat in yoga pants and a top knot, wallpapering and muttering non-sensical things about the One Room Challenge. It took a few days but to be completely honest, I think this is the smoothest wallpapering has ever gone in this household. Maybe it’s all the practice I’ve had in the past (read tremendous struggles.) or the fact that this gorgeous pattern is mercifully forgiving, but up it went without any major casualties and the end result? 100% spectacular!
The most labor intensive part of the room transformation appears to be behind me (unless you count the miracle I will need to conjure to procur non-delayed furniture shipping in pandemic times). Next up this upcoming week: the first piece arrives! The Jenny Lind bed should be here by Thursday and I’m 75% certain I’ve found sheets to go on it and 65% certain that I’m mentally prepared to tackle transitioning my toddler to a bed. Here’s to hoping the rest of the furniture arrives before (or even close to) the end of the ORC but what will be will be. Keep your fingers crossed for me and stay tuned!
Thanks for stopping by,
