One of the things I love about this time of year is the present wrapping and no, I am not being sarcastic. As someone who loves decorating, design, and any opportunity to get a little creative, it makes sense really. After all, decorating a box is sort of like decorating a room, just on a much smaller scale, right?
This week, I teamed up with a handful of other interior design lovers relatively new to the blogosphere and looking to grow an online presence like myself for a little gift wrapping inspiration event. Be sure to hop on instagram and head to their pages for some more inspo!

Two trees in two different rooms this year meant double the wrapping fun for yours truly. In this post, I’ll be focusing on our dining room (I’ll be coming at you with our living room look in an upcoming post soon). This December, I decided on a moody aesthetic with lots of contrast, mixed metals, and fresh winter greens in our dining room so I wanted to carry that over to the gift wrapping.
I was able to snag ALL of my materials – four different rolls of wrapping paper, ribbon, and the cutest little wooden tags – for right around $20 (sources listed at the end of the post)! When planning a wrapping paper palette, I recommend settling on 2-3 main colors as a foundation. In my case, I went with black, white, and copper (which complimented my tree). 1-2 solid color rolls of wallpaper (I did a shiny copper and a matte black for contrast) plus 1-2 fun patterned rolls are often the key to a balanced look. I generally offer to do my family’s wrapping each year (raise your hand if you think I’m bananas) so I end up having a handful of gifts for each person to tackle. Pro tip: if you’re wrapping for multiple people and have more than one gift, consider using one wrapping paper print per person to help you keep track of whose gifts are whose.
Once I had the wrapping paper squared away, I brought in pops of gold, silver, and copper in the ribbons and some fresh greenery (that I stole straight from my garland) for a sophisticated, earthy feel.
I had so much fun with it and bonus, prettily wrapped gifts can play a huge part in your December decor. You can display them under a tree, on a side table, or up on a shelf – it all looks great and adds a festive touch to any room. Stay tuned for my living room gift look and in the mean time, happy wrapping!
