8 weeks flew by and reveal day for the One Room Challenge is somehow here. I’m not going to lie, the past 2 months have been a bit chaotic and I haven’t come on here to give updates as regularly as I planned. That combined with the massive production and shipping delays in the furniture world means that the room isn’t quite as complete as I’d hoped. But despite that, I’m proud of how much I was able to accomplish in the space and boy do I LOVE how it’s looking.
The real labor of love was the walls. Previously, we had a single wallpaper accent wall in my youngest’s nursery and I’ll be honest, I was never the biggest fan of how that room turned out (hey, it happens sometimes).
The new DIY beadboard paneling + Chasing Paper wallpaper combo is easily my favorite part of this room transformation. The neutral shade of greige we used on the beadboard elevates the space and contrasts beautifully with the peach and tangerines tones in the gorgeous wallpaper pattern. It’s fun and whimsical enough for a child’s room while still being sophisticated enough to work for a teenager someday (but let’s not think about that too much just yet, my sentimental self is already feeling weepy about my two year old moving into a big kid bed).
The Jenny Lind bed – another personal favorite from this space – similarly strikes a beautiful balance between being youthful yet timeless. You may remember me gushing about the scallop nightstands I found a few weeks back – sadly they’re not here yet but I’ll be sure to do a phase two reveal (with all room sources!) when all the final pieces are in place next month.
Our dresser was also delayed so I originally styled the space with the dresser we’d previously used as a changing table. But just as I was getting ready to post this update a few days back, I got a call that the new dresser would be delivered this weekend wayyyy ahead of schedule. Sounds like a One Room Challenge miracle to me, wouldn’t you say?! While the white dresser looked a lot cuter than I initially anticipated, I’m happy we ultimately went with something with a slightly smaller footprint to better suit the space.
They say decorating is in the details, a design adage that I’ve always found to be particularly accurate. I knew I’d be hitting up Juniper Print Shop, my favorite online source for affordable art, and the “Landmarks” print duo I spotted there immediately called to me. The set is an adorable nod to our love of travel which we hope to instill in our children, it brings a pop of black to the space (along with the rug, a last minute find from the Studio McGee line at Target after the original choice that I had you all vote on arrived and was just a little bit too cool-toned and small), and it’s so stinkin’ sweet for a kid’s room, no?
Finally, the peg rail wall. I did it in big sister’s room and loved the added detail and visual interest it lent the space. I had more than enough pegs left from my last project and knew it would be the perfect fit for the dead space in this little corner with the sconce. Subtle enough that it doesn’t feel too busy next to the art and so unbelievably easy to install- win win!
So many sweet moments in this room for my sweet kiddo, whose excited little face and proud exclamations about having “a big kid room!” make all the late nights spent painting, wallpapering, and scrambling to find furniture solutions amidst never ending production and shipping delays 100% worth it. Perhaps this ORC didn’t go as smoothly as the last but I learned a ton, had a blast connecting with fellow interior design enthusiasts, and had the opportunity to create – and that is what it’s all about!
Until next time, thanks for stopping by,
