I hope this post finds you all having a wonderful and relaxing weekend! Admittedly, I’m a smidge over two days late with this ORC update. I’d love to tell you that that’s because I’ve been hard at work doing big things in the room but that’s not entirely true. I’ve had some big (exciting!) changes happening career-wise – more to come on that soon – which ultimately lead to me falling short of my goal of having the painting done by this point. No worries though, my husband and I spent our Saturday night with cocktails and paintbrushes in hand and hope to have this space fully painted by the end of the day.
So what have I done in the room this past week then? Though it may look the same, it was an important week planning-wise (and I’m not just saying that to justify the lack of tangible progress, I swear). I finally, FINALLY landed on a plan for furniture, hooray! As you may remember from my week 1 overview, I initially thought I was going with a driftwood dresser and a white daybed. While I still love that design plan, Covid has made for some extra long shipping times which meant that the driftwood dresser I was pining after wouldn’t arrive until October. Hard pass, that was never going to work. I love reusing pieces and extending the life of furniture whenever possible, so I started thinking that maybe my kiddo’s current dresser could work if I just gave it some love – after all, switching hardware and styling can make all the difference.
Given that the dresser is a solid white finish, I wanted to go with a bed that made a statement to add visual interest and character to the space. Cue the Jenny Lind bed. I’ve always been drawn to this style of furniture and swore I’d use it when the right project came along. I honestly can’t think of a more perfect place for those fun spindles and intricate woodturnings than a child’s room. Not to be outdone are the absolutely amazing nightstands I found. A bit of a splurge but what can I say, it was love at first sight. Get a load of the scalloped edge, would you?! Because of the aforementioned shipping delays, there’s a chance that these beauties won’t arrive until after the conclusion of the ORC but some pieces are just worth waiting for.
Lastly, we decided on a rug! I think. Right?! Right. It’s been tough after tough design decision in this room, folks. I polled those of you who’ve been following along on Instagram and two rugs were neck and neck – the striped, greige rug from Studio McGee and the botanical, power loomed rug from Rifle Paper Co. I’ve gone back and forth about 15 times because they’re both gorgeous and lend different but equally beautiful vibes to the space but ultimately landed on…OPTION ONE (which, incidentally, is the rug from my original moodboard). I’ve always been a huge fan of classic stripes and I believe this rug will nicely ground the space, allowing for the pops of peach and tangerine in the wallpaper to shine. You can check out the whole design in the updated moodboard below.
Though I’ve had some fun thoughts regarding textiles and art in the space which I’m excited to share soon, I’ve got a room that needs to be painted and a laaaarggee cup of coffee waiting to be drank. So wish me luck and stay tuned!
Thanks for stopping by,
