Hello hello, and happy Thursday! The word of the week: paint. In week 2 of the ORC, I finished up painting the built-ins and I’m pretty pumped about the end result. Well, I ALMOST finished painting the built-ins if I’m being honest. So. Many. WINDOW PANES!!! Will I lose readers if I insert a pun here about how they should be called window PAINS?! Solid comedy, no? I’ll be here all week! No really, I will be stuck here all week painting these freaking built-ins. Raise your hand if you’re thinking I’ve spent one too many hours inhaling paint fumes…
MOVING ON…last week, I shared how I wanted to go with a dark shade on the shelves and I’m so glad I did. After MUCH deliberation, I chose Tricorn Black by Sherwin Williams, which looks beautiful in a high gloss finish typically used on doors/trim/built-ins. It’s a totally different look than the other rooms in our house yet it still feels cohesive within our home as a whole – win! However, the second I got the first coat up and stepped back, I realized that the original wall color did not look good paired with the black. I was getting 80s vibes in all the wrong ways, especially when I held up some of the gold/brass accent pieces I hope to use in the space. So it was back to the drawing board to nail down a new hue. Yayyy, more painting (said no one ever).
I’ve landed on Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore, a bright white that I think will contrast beautifully with the Tricorn Black and will (hopefully!) give the room a crisp, polished look. I’m giving myself until the end of week 4 to finish all the painting because I may need a wee break (if you don’t believe me, kindly scroll up and re-read my ‘window pain’ pun – ouch).
One other exciting development this week – I HAVE VANQUISHED THE BOOB LIGHT! I splurged on a beautiful fixture from Shades of Light that can be hung both as a chandelier if you have the ceiling height (extremely jealous of you if you do!) or in our case, a semi-flush mount fixture. I also removed the two oddly placed sconces in the room which were 1.) original to the house and 2.) ugly as sin. The only safe option was to cover them with a switch plate so I’ll have to test my creativity and see if I can hide them with strategically placed artwork as I’ve done in other rooms of our house.
This upcoming week, I’ll be focusing on finishing up furnishing the space, finding the perfect rug (I’m thinking mostly neutral tones with subtle hues of greens/blues), and solidifying plans to put cabinet doors on the larger built-ins to cover the AC ductwork. Head over to instagram for all the updates – I’ll be looking for input on the rug situation for sure. Lots to accomplish and so little time but one thing is certain – I’m having a blast so far!
Thanks for stopping by,

Love the black and white! We just used Chantilly Lace on the interior of our linen closet because it had heinous beige walls and polka dot contact paper on the shelves from 10+ years ago (barf). It’s such a clean bright color! The light fixture is a beauty and so much better than the boob light!!

Thanks Kirstin! So glad to hear that you used it and loved it! I can’t wait to see how it brightens this space.
