It’s that time again, another one room challenge update! Week 4 looked like lots of progress on the details of the room, which I’ve decided may be my favorite part of the decorating process. I often find the details of a space are what really give it life and personality.
Given that I went with black on the built-ins and white on the walls, I knew that I’d be looking to the furniture and decor to warm the space up and add some complexity. To do this, I wanted to layer different textures and complimentary patterns. The best way to accomplish this in a bedroom? Bedding, throw pillows, and a fun area rug! When selecting these items for a room, consider how they will work together. If you want a bold bedspread with a busy pattern (I’ll use this one as an example because my one-year-old just saw a picture and was THRILLED about “DA BIRDIES TWEET TWEET!!!”), consider pairing it with a neutral area rug and solid colored throw pillows in fun textures (think boucle, handwoven details, and honeycomb stitching). In my case, I wanted a more intricate design on the rug so I knew I’d like the comforter and pillows to be somewhat neutral (often my preference).
I’ve had my eye on this duvet cover for ages and stayed set on it throughout the design process. It felt timeless and went nicely with our oatmeal-colored upholstered headboard. I’ve decided to pair it with crisp white sheets for a clean look (and because I already had them and I’m all about saving money whenever possible). I wanted to layer in an additional texture/color on the bed for a bit more visual interest and after running through lots of possibilities in my mind, felt most excited about these faux leather throw pillows (thanks Blesserhouse for recommending this awesome and adorable find).
I love the casual elegance and warmth of this tone of leather and started thinking of other ways I could add pops of it around the room. How about this pretty vase from the Studio McGee line at target? Yes please. When contemplating leather accent pieces, my mind quickly went to this gorgeous ottoman that I’ve admired for ages. However, I was shut down rather quickly when I remembered that yes, I do have a set budget to work with on this project and no, we do not have a field of money trees growing in our backyard. So imagine my sheer delight when THIS turned up in one of my google searches and on-sale for almost a quarter of the price of the original ottoman to boot! The pictures were gorgeous and the reviews were airtight so I had to give it a whirl. It should be arriving early next week, so stay tuned!
Last week I swore I would find a rug and find a rug I did. And it is BEAUTIFUL! Friends, meet Frannie by Lulu & Georgia (no, I didn’t name it, this is actually what it’s called). I didn’t know it was possible to have feelings for a carpet but here we are. It’s a beautiful, vintage inspired pattern and I was able to get it in roughly an 8 x 10 size for under $325. This is a perfect example of how the right rug can really make a space. I rolled it out and literally shrieked (freaked out the dog for sure).
In the upcoming week, I’ll be turning my attention to styling the dresser and the smaller built-ins. I’ve already ordered the mirror of my dreams (yes, I dream of mirrors, is anyone surprised coming from the gal who has a crush on a rug?) and am hoping it arrives by next Thursday so I can show it off. Wishing everyone a great weekend and a happy and safe Halloween!
Thanks for stopping by,
